Meet Dr. B

Dr. Jeffrey Bergen

Dr. Bergen was born and raised in Winnipeg. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba, he took time to travel the world, including having completed extensive backpacking trips throughout South America, Australia, and Asia.

Dental school followed soon after his return to Winnipeg. During his four years at the faculty of dentistry at the University of Manitoba, he was active in student politics as class President, Vice President, and President of the University of Manitoba Dental Students Association. He was also consistently a member of the Dean’s honour list and won several awards.

Dr. Bergen remains active in organized dentistry groups. He currently serves as Vice President of the University of Manitoba Alumni Association and is a member of the board of the newly formed Manitoba Dental Foundation.

Dr. Bergen enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with special interest in endodontics and implant therapy. He is happy to provide dental services for the whole family at Fresh Dental. Dr. Bergen is certified in the delivery of nitrous oxide.

As a resident of Winnipeg’s Waverley West community, Dr. Bergen also stays involved with the local community organizations. Dr. Bergen continues to enjoy exploring new parts of the world with his wife, who shares that passion. He also enjoys kiteboarding, ultimate (frisbee), disc golf, soccer, backcountry camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Bergen speaks German and Low German.

Meet Dr. Lindi

Dr. Lindi van Jaarsveldt

Dr. Lindi was born in South Africa and started her career as a nurse in the city of Port Elizabeth, where she met her future husband.

In 1998, she and her husband decided to visit Canada for a working holiday. They fell in love with Manitoba and decided to make Canada their home.

Dr. Lindi became interested in dentistry while working in Flin Flon and decided to pursue it as a second career. She was accepted to the faculty of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba, where she met Dr. Alex and Dr. Bergen. In her third year of the program, Dr. Lindi was the recipient of the Peter Jackin Memorial Award, and in her final year she received the Humanitarian Award.

Now a mother of four children, Dr. Lindi loves working with children and has an innate ability to make them feel comfortable and at ease while at a dental appointment.

Dr. Lindi’s laughter is infectious and can be heard throughout our office at Fresh Dental. This has a profound, positive effect on her patients and helps to relieve anxiety. For those with dental phobias, Dr. Lindi has undergone additional training in sedation dentistry. She is certified to administer nitrous oxide sedation (also referred to as laughing gas) in appropriate cases.

In addition to working at Fresh, Dr. Lindi volunteers her time at Siloam Mission in Winnipeg, providing dental services to its clients.

When she is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Lindi enjoys spending time with her husband and children, and their two miniature dachshunds, Penny and Phoebe.

Dr. Lindi speaks Afrikaans.

Meet Dr. Alex

Dr. Alex Serebnitski

Dr. Alex was born in Ukraine, where he lived until the age of 7, when his family moved to Israel. After spending a significant part of his life in Israel, he and his family decided to make a home in Canada.

He comes from a family of dental professionals, with his grandfather and father being a lab technician and a denturist. Their choice of profession inspired Dr. Alex to become a dentist.

Dr. Alex graduated from the faculty of dentistry at the University of Manitoba with a DMD dental degree and a Bachelor of Science in dentistry degree. Dr. Alex has also been actively involved in continuing education programs since graduation, predominantly in the area of implant dentistry. He is proud to offer implant dentistry services to the patients of Fresh Dental.

He is also a clinical instructor at the college of dentistry in the area of dental diagnostics and surgical sciences, a position he has held since 2011.

Dr. Alex believes that being a dental professional is only part of his role in the community. He established a scholarship at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba for young adults who wish to pursue post-secondary education and he chairs the Scholarship committee on that foundation.

For the past several years, Dr. Alex has participated in annual dental missions to Guatemala through an organization called Health Outreach. The main purpose of these mission trips is providing dental services to underprivileged people in the rural areas of Guatemala. While in Guatemala, he also developed a soccer program for local children and holds an annual drive for donations of gently used soccer equipment.

Dr. Alex is fluent in Russian, Hebrew, and is currently working on his Spanish.

Meet Dr. Moon

Dr. Moon was born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba. After completing his Biomedical Internship program, it was then when he decided that dentistry would be his passion in the healthcare industry. After doing his undergraduate studies at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Moon attended and graduated from the University of Manitoba Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry to obtain his Doctorate in Dental Medicine degree.

During his four years of studies at the college, he served as the student senator and the UMSU representative for the Manitoba Dental Student Association. Helping organizing events, updating the faculty with UMSU policies, and taking part in senate meetings. And now, Dr. Moon is involving himself with academics by serving as a part-time clinical instructor at the dental college, teaching basic patient management and clinical experiences.

Dr. Moon enjoys all aspects of Dentistry, but most of all, he enjoys relieving patients from their dental pain. Dr. Moon understands how life disrupting dental pain can be and the importance of dealing with the source of pain as soon as possible.

On his days off, Dr. Moon loves to enjoy Winnipeg’s lovely summer weather with a round of golf, bouldering, and playing soccer in a recreational league.
